John N. Kuhre was born and grew up in the Berkeley Hills of the San Francisco Bay area of northern California. Throughout his youth and teenage years, he enjoyed the nearby sea and mountains and often spent summers either at the beach or backpacking in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. John graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1972.

He moved to Texas with his family when his father, who was a chemical engineer employed by Shell Oil, was transferred to Houston late in 1972. In his college years, John studied at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah and at the University of Houston. During his undergraduate years, he spent two years abroad in Japan where he studied the language and learned of the culture of the Japanese people. He graduated with a summa cum laude baccalaureate, majoring in Microbiology and Chemistry, from Brigham Young University in 1978. After graduating, he spent two years in post-graduate studies and medical research at the University of Texas Medical School in Houston.

He attended dental school from 1981 through 1985, receiving his doctorate and graduating cum laude from University of Texas Health Science Center Dental School at San Antonio, Texas, in May 1985. After dental school, Dr. Kuhre received additional training in a one-year General Practice Residency at the USAF Hospital at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana. He served as a Dental Officer with the United States Air Force for six years during which he expanded his training and gained valuable experience in many of the specialties of dental care. For most of his time in the Air Force, Dr. Kuhre was stationed with his family at Canon Air Force Base in Clovis, New Mexico. He served on many Air Force hospital committees and wartime readiness training/mobile hospital-surgical units while in the Air Force. He was a member of the Hospital Infection Control and Quality Assurance/Risk Management Committees and was the Officer-in-Charge of Inpatient Oral Surgery Care. He was accepted to an Oral Surgery Residency, but declined the offer, deciding to pursue his dental career outside the United States Air Force in 1991.

In 1991, Dr. Kuhre and his family moved to Dallas, Texas. He practiced all phases of general dentistry as an associate for several large group practices until January 2002 when he opened Cornerstone Dental Associates – Valley Ranch.

Cornerstone Dental evolved out of a desire to create an ideal practice where patients could receive highly personalized state-of-the-art care in a soothing and relaxing atmosphere. Dr. Kuhre’s hope was to establish a practice setting where patients can be confident that they are receiving the best possible care in as stress-free an atmosphere as possible. Keeping the cost of treatment affordable and treating his patients in a fair and completely honest manner is also central to his concept of the ideal dental practice. Dr. Kuhre truly cares about each of his patients and wants them to feel that they are special and entitled to very personalized care in a compassionate and relaxed setting.

Dr. Kuhre has a home in Southlake, Texas, and has two sons, Jeremy and Brandon, who are both college students..
